Just got a new 870 sm and want y'alls opinion on tube and shells. First tube I'm trying is the Jellyhead .660 with hevi-13 3.5 in. 2 1/4 oz #6. Anybody got any other ideas on this setup ?

JH makes a .665 too, from the posts on here it looks like to me the .660 is too tight for the #6 in that size load.

WELCOME!!

First of all welcome to OG. It's a great site.

I think you'll be just fine but only some time spent at the range will tell you. There are many good choices of chokes with that gun. We all have one or even several that have worked well for each of us, just like some of us prefer 3" shells and others 3.5" shells.

Since you already have the JH and 3.5" H-13s, that's what I'd try.

Good luck to you.

Thanks,
Clark

My 870 SM loves the Jelly Head .660 and Hevi 3.5" #7's.....best was 308 in 10" at 40 yards.

You can try the #6's if you want, but I would go ahead and buy some #7's...you won't be dissappointed.

Finally got to shoot my new rig today. Final verdict was Hevi 13 3.5-2.25-6 at 40 yds pellet count averaged 202 pellets. Just need to adjust POA/POI and I'll be set for turkey season.

Style welcome to OG.  You are going to find a wealth of information concerning the 870 on this site.  The guys here have done their homework with many different guns and choke combos.  There is two things I would suggest, 1. deep clean and polish your barrel and 2. try some Hevi-13 #7's through that setup.  I think you will be Pleasantly Surprised with the pattern and count.  The post for polishing your barrel is the first post in this section.  Best of luck with your setup and Welcome To OG.

I agree.  You have it made now.  Try to post up some patterns, we love to see patterns!!

A good polish will increase your numbers too.  Easy to do, there is a great tutorial on here.

First order of business....

:welcomeOG:

You have a great gun and there are people here that will save you lots and lots of money if one will listen; can't help you on the heavy shot but my choice is  nitro's and winchester supremes both in # 6 or # 5's in winchester; I have used the Jely head with good success and the remington xx extended factory choke as well; good luck in whatever you choose...............rem

I love this setup. I get 220 in a 10" circle at 40. I'm going to try the #7s this year and see if I can improve.
