Favorite Call?

I was thinking and wanted to know what everyone's favorite turkey call is.  It does not matter whether it is your go to call in the field or just that one that holds a special place in your heart.

My favorite is the first custom call I ever bought.  It is a Southland Game Call Slate with a hickory striker.  It has a walnut base.  It was the call that I called in my very first turkey with, a jake, and the call that I killed my first Tom with, 20 lbs., 11.5" beard, and 1" spurs.

Alot of time I start out with a different call in my hand but some how before it is over I pull out this one.  It is simple, but is beautiful and makes the best sounds you can hear.  I bought it after a guy in the store was playing it and I heard what it could do.

I know this call will be used this year, but I am going to try pulling out a few others I have.  A box call from our very own Spring Creek Custom Calls (Gobblez), a XT Havoc mouth call, some legacy mouth calls, a Reynold's Carolina Assassin, a Mother Lode English Walnut Trumpet, and one of the Kittrell Cane Caller Yelpers.

That old Southland will always have a place in my vest and in my heart.

As a heads up to anyone that might be looking for a new call this year, we have a call maker on our team, M,Yingling.  His stuff is BEAUTIFUL!

The calls I use the most are an H.S. ez-rasp 2 reed. Hook's 3 reed with a cut (the black one). I have 6 or so Hook's mouth calls that I carry, and it really doesn't matter which one you grab. They all sound good and all run about the same. I also really like the H.S power v, it's a 3.5 reed (i think) with good rasp, fair volume, but it needs a little more air to run.

Custom Slate from FLATWOODS custom calls here in SC.  I usually start out with a custom crystal I have, try a few mouth calls but when NOTHING seems to work....the ole hickory pot slate from FW and any striker I decide to pull out gets them fired up.  8am, 11am, or 4pm...it seems to make them want to gobble.

I have a small assortment of mouth calls, a box or two, and a slate, crystal, and glass.....but seems when the going gets tough, its always the flatwoods that makes em talk.

I have a Lynch Fool Proof box that I love, helped me kill my first turkey.  I have had it for almost 20 years.  I am also partial to my Perfection Double Glass (about as old as the Lynch), it's helped with the demise of a few birds too.  As far as mouth call's I love the Primos Limbhanger, makes a great kee kee in the fall, a Perfection double or triple reed are go to's as well.  Sometimes I even break out my homemade wingbone for long distance yelps and clucks.

I'm a big fan of pot calls.

The last couple years its been a Legacy Triple Bypass diaphragm.  But I'm going to try some different mouth calls here soon.

Mainly use Hooks mouth calls. My go to call last year was a Hooks EXECUTIONER call in all 3 of my birds with it. And and 5 other birds for friends.

I have a doug camp screaming hen long box call that I managed to kill a bird or two with last season. I've started using Tom Teaser mouth calls last season. I also have a very old cody slate call that sounds awesome is just about the only non custom call in my vest.

I mostly like using a mouth call. Last year I used the woodhaven stinger I believe. I picked up a houndstooth call this year at a show in Birmingham Alabama and i really like it. I may be using it a lot more this year. I love a pot call as well but I tend to get caught more moving from my call to my gun when they sneak in on me. I'll use a pot to run and gun if I can't get any birds talking on roost but I would have to say mouth call is my favorite for sure.
