Hey all.  I have a buddy that has a browning auto  (3") in fixed full choke.  Anyone know of a load that will pattern well in this gun?  He is currently deployed and will be back just after the start of the season and I am trying to get it set up for him so he can hit the ground running upon his return.

I have used 3" Hevi-13 "Bronze" shells with 2 oz. of #6 shot in fixed full choke guns with good success. Most of them have a .690 full choke. I have seen some streaking in those barrels in the choke area but after many shells through them have never seen a choke open up after using them. Like any other gun, you'd need to pattern it of course.

If you or he are reluctant to use tungsten-based shot in that gun, I'd recommend 3" Winchester HV (Black Shells) with 1.75 oz. of #6 lead shot. That load will also kill turkeys quite well at ranges up to 40 yards. Again of course, you'd need to take it to the range to see just how it patterns.

All my best to you and your buddy this spring.

Thanks,
Clark

Thanks Clark.  I dont think he is much concerned.  He spent several years in alaska where he ran all sorts of duck/goose loads through it.  I am gonna try some of the HS you mentioned in my guns, so i will shoot a couple through his as well.

Thanks again

Federal Flightcontrol shells will shoot great patterns in this gun
I have a Remington 1100 3" Magnum with a 30"  .690 "fixed" full choke and this is what I use in it
