Lets talk Slug specific rigs. What you shoot and why. I may be looking. I already own a T/C Encore/Pro Hunter and a Benelli SBE II. Open to 12 or 20. Talk to me!!

I use an H&R Ultra Slug Hunter (SB2-980).  One can be had for less than $250, so the dedicated gun costs less than many rifled replacement barrels.  The 12ga version starts with a 10ga blank and is bored to 12ga, so it is quite heavy...which is handy in soaking up the recoil of high-velocity sabot rounds.  I use 2 3/4" Win Partition Golds with mine.  It'll consistently shoot 1.5" groups with the factory trigger which breaks clean but is a little heavy...but nothing like a standard shotgun trigger however.

Here's one fully decked out by D&T Custom Gunworks...

Stink thats what I mean. Your talkin $350 to put a barrel on my T/C and way more to put one on my Benelli. Then swapin it out and re-sighting is a pain. But again I bout the T/C because I could swap barrels, I'm torn!! That AWESOME looking break on that H & R looks SO cool!!

I set up an 870 12ga. smooth bore this season and got rid of the Cantilever rifled Mossberg I had for the last 5yrs. I got tried of paying $20 for five shots of the Remington Copper Solids 3" sabots. The sabots would shoot a really tight group but now I shoot the Rifled Federal Power Shoks 2 3/4 with about the same results at a 100yrds. I like to shoot my slug gun even in the summer just for fun but it got to salty, now at $3.47 a box its alot more fun. My son-in-law has a Mossberg 20ga with the 26"vent rib/smooth bore barrel and shoots the snot out of a target the size of a quarter at 75yrds and it opens up to about the size of a baseball at a 100yrds. Theres just so many types of barrels, gauges and specific type guns to choose from, you could set one up anyway you'd want it. I just couldn't see $250 for a single shot barrel. You could get one bad as* slug gun for that price. just my thoughts.

I haven't tried their AccuTips, but their CoreLokt Ultras have the exact same POI as my Partition Golds, so I can interchange them freely.  Remington's pricing on the CoreLokt Ultras went thru the roof for some reason.  They're nearly twice the price of the Partition Golds....weird.

That reminds me.  I'm using my Mossy 500 as a backup, and it just loves the cheap Federal Truballs thru its improved cylinder choke.  It almost cloverleafs 'em at 50 yards.  I haven't tried 'em at 100, because the gun has open sites, and my eyesight ain't that good anymore.  :(

Havent tried out my Mossberg with too many ammos yet as to find one I really like however I have a friend of mine that said the new savage bolt action shotgun rocks. Very accurate even beyond 100 yards

A big thumbs up on the H&R ultra sluggers.
I loved my .12ga so much i went and got the .20ga also  :z-guntootsmiley:

The .12 has a bushnell banner scope with burris rings and them buttler creek
flip up caps, and i shoot hornady sst out of it. At 100yrds you can cover all 3 holes with a quarter
The .20 has the same scope and ring set up,but it doesnt like the hornadys. I shot remmington
buckhammers out of it. buckhammers are $8 a box compared to the lightfields at $16 a box.
And they shot just as good.
If i was looking to buy a gun just for slug hunting these would definitely be my fist choice :z-winnersmiley:

CB on the run

I currently have 3:  a Browning Abolt 12ga with a Leupold 2X7 HD which shoots one ragged hole(after fouling) at 75 yards with 3" Federal Barnes combo, a custom built R20 built by Randy Ryan on a Remington 1100 20 ga action with a pinned Hastings barrel that shoots 2 1/2" @ 100 yards with Federal Barnes or Hornady tipped and the new one is a Ithaca 20 ga that I'm still working with also topped w/a Leupold 2X7. It's been hot and cold but so far shoots the Remington Accutips reasonably well and I did harvest a small buck with it this fall.  The shot was hard quartering away and the slug destroyed the near side lung but did not exit at 35 yards.  We couldn't find it either.  I'm still sold on Federal Barnes slugs if you can get them to shoot out of your rig.  I do have a rifled barrel for a Benelli Black Eagle but my son ownes the gun now and I  think he wants that barrel also.  Browning has reintroduced the Abolt rifled slug gun and IMO it's the best production slug gun on the market today.  I wish that they would come out with a 20 ga version.

12 Ga Savage 210...shoots 2-¾ federal barns exp real good. Switched to accu tips now even better, but real hard to get.

20 Ga. U.S.H... Accu Tips real good.

20 Ga. Savage 220.. Accu Tips real good.

All 3 rigs are equipped with(3x9) Nikon's, Have shot the accu tips real good..But are real hard to find. You have to get them in the off season. I'm hearing great things about the partition golds in all. I'm going to try them in all rigs, and see if my barrels like them.
