Now how cool is that?! I've never seen something like that before. Just looking at the picture, the turkey looks like it was tooled leather. That's really neat. It'd look great in my man cave, minus your name and adding mine.  ;D I might have to get with you on that one.

West Augusta

That looks great. A buddy of mine skrimshaws on the white ones. They look neat.
No trees were hurt in the sending of this message, however a large number of electrons were highly inconvenienced.

Is it preserved some kind of way to keep it from decaying? It'd be a shame to see something like that shrink, shrivel or turn after time.

joshua

Never seen something like that. Great job.
Turkeys are as smart as hunters make em and public land offers more classes.
George Washington didn't use his freedom of speech to defeat the British, he shot them.

It was already dry before I painted/burned it.  The moisture content in it is almost nill compared to when I picked it.  Its quite a bit different than wood in that its high in moisture, however it dries out quickly and almost completely.

I also doubt that it will shrink any since its done drying.

Just a FYI.

I pick a few of these every year.  Tips I learned
1. pick in winter when there dormant
2. Never get water on the white side not even hand oils it will turn brown
3. Works great for woodburning's
4. Microwave before using.  I have found there full of little beetle mite things.  You will not notice them but after awhile sitting on a shelf you will see little casings under the shroom.  I used a bug bomb no help, tried freezing-no help, nuked it for 20 seconds - not a bug in over 2 years.
