Going for my first eye exam today...

I have noticed my eyesight getting worse over the past 2-3 years.  Although I know I should have gotten them examined earlier, I'm finally going today.  I have used a laptop 8 hours a day for the past 6 years.  I suspect this has contributed to my eyesight issues.  I can remember growing up that my dad would comment that his arms were getting shorter... meaning that he had to hold his newspaper, magazines, etc. at arms length to be able to read it.  That's where I am.
I find that after looking at something up close (under a foot away) for an extended period of time, it takes me several seconds to refocus when I try to read something at a distance.
One thing I have noticed being very difficult lately is picking splinters out of my fingers.  That may not sound like a big deal to some folks, but when you work frequently with wood and walk through blackberry brambles while hunting, it is a bid deal.  I'm a bit apprehensive about having to keep up with a pair of glasses, but look forward to being able to see detail up close again.

The glasses are not that bad have had them for a few years. The exam is painless but make sure they check and tell you where your eye pressure is. Good luck and hang tough.

I need reading glasses now and that is a problem for me to keep a piar around.
I have finally figured it out, I bought  about 10 pair and have located them all over, one in my truck for maps, one by my bed for reading at night, one at my desk at work for drawings, one in my briefcase for drawings in the field, one at the cabin for reading, one at the deer cabin for reading, and one pair just for breaking.

Remember your arms are getting shorter.

Wendell, fear not for having to use some type of corrective lenses.  I started out wearing glasses when I was 9, and Im now 27.  You get used to it.  You might look into contacts as well.

after wearing glasses and contacts for a bajillion years I got lasik surgery.  Best deal in the world - amazing transformation.  got it 10 years ago, still good.

Like most of the others have said Dont fear wearing glasses , I wear them and like them, no I really like them. I can see better than when I was a kid . I can read the line that says my sight is 15/20 better than 20/20 .

Once you hit 40 your eyes will do that. I wear reading glasses now for anything up close.

When in my 40's I went from no glasses to bifocals. Had a hard time getting used to them. I still have trouble working on anything where I have to look up.
Spring turkey hunting, I love it so.                FREEDOM IS NOT FREE

Well, after an hour wait for my 2:30 appointment...  The exam went better than I expeceted.  After it was all said and done, the doc said my overall eye health is great.  He recommended getting over the counter 1.5x reading glasses.  He said he would be glad to give me a script for bi-focals, but the reading glasses would do the job for a lot less money.  My vision at distances beyond the length of my arm is great still.  Time to make a trip to wal-mart and pick up a handful of reading glasses to strategically place around places I frequent.

Thanks for the idea of having multiple pairs rather than trying to keep up with one pair.  :icon_thumright:
