Finally dialed in my Mossy 535!

I've had this Mossberg 535 for over 2 years now, and it finally delivered a 200+ pattern at 40 yards.   I've tried all different kinds of chokes and shell combinations and even polished the barrel.   Some chokes shot better than others, but the biggest change came from using HTL shot.

I had a bit of a setback this Spring when my non-stainless Indian Creek BDS .660" choke decided to split down the middle.    It was delivering nice patterns up until then, but I had to use my .643" SSX for hunting purposes.

I finally had an opportunity to do some pattern testing with the new Stainless Indian Creek BDS with some 3-2-7 Hevi 13 loads.

The weather today was less than ideal with gusty winds and temp around 55.    I shot a measured distance of 40 yards and put 254 pellets in the 10" circle.     I think I've finally got a certified 40 yard Turkey killer now.

Nice looking pattern.  My 535 likes the IC .660 as well.

That's a very nice even pattern.  Out to 20" it's very even.

I'd hunt with that combo and stop chasing numbers.  Congratulations!!!

Thats my plan!    I'll hunt with the Hevi 13 shells and keep my stash of lead Turkey loads for Coyotes, Raccoons and Zombies.

My gun was giving me fits because it would pattern nice out to 30 yards and consistently put 250-270 pellets in a 10" circle.     Between 30 and 40 yards the lead pellets would disperse and sometimes left me with only 80-100 pellets in the 10" at 40 yards.

I finally have a solid 40 yard Turkey killer and probably even closer to 50 yards if I spent the time patterning at 50.    I'm glad the search is finally over!

Thanks for the compliments guys!    I'm flying out to Beaver Island in Lake Michigan at the end of September for a Turkey hunt.

Supposedly, the island is loaded with birds and I can't wait to smoke a nice Gobbler with these Hevi 7's.
