Anyone have a recomedation on a gunsmith that can shorten and rethread an 870 barrle? The last one I sent mine to managed to screw it up. I couldn't get the choke tube out with out the use of a benchvise and somevise grip pliars.

Swann's Gun Repair,  Jackson, MS.  Has done 4 barrels for me including shortening on one of them.  Excellant work, POI and POA are on the money when he is done.  He has also parkerized a few guns for me ,wrinkle painted and airbrushed the stocks etc.  Tons of mechanical work on everything from berettas to brownings for me. Top shelf everytime. Great work on my guns for the last 20yrs.

I use John Mann, at Mann & Son Sporting Goods (Since 1946) for gunsmith work. You can reach them at 618.357.2911.

Rob Roberts at Rob Roberts Custom Gun Works also does excellent work. Rob Roberts Custom Gunworks

I hope that helps.

I second John Mann's shop.  John is the Remington go-to smith at certain national shooting events.  Even though I live in GA, I have used him twice in the past few years.

gotcha

I have used Colonial Arms in Alabama recently with good results but Rob Roberts is very capable also.
