I've been going to South Texas the last 25 years and I usually always hunt the opener. I have hunted in April and it will be fine it all just depends on how many groups will be there before you.

I appreciate the advice.  The property I will be hunting is in the southern portion of the "north zone".  It's a 2000 acre piece of property that's a cattle ranch.  It has water but no feeders.  One thing I liked was the outfitter listed it having a roosting site in his description.  The ranch owner turkey hunts it opening weekend.  2 days after Easter my hunt starts and that's it for the year.  Of the 4 or 5 ranches he offers the other ones were already booked by return hunters.  It will be unguided and they will show me the roost area, key locations the evening before my hunt.  Here at home and whenever I travel I hunt public, so I'm used to hunting birds that have been hunted.  Hopefully it's a good trip.  I like to bring my birds to the call but in a pinch if I have to ambush, hunt them like deer, I have before, just not my preferred way.
