The Final Approach  last strut lightweight vest looks like a good minimalist vest and would serve me good in the mountains. But for me it's all about the seat. Has anyone tried there  vest out? I'm used to a rubber tire seat that's  hard to beat they are a little heavy though. Thanks and good day.

Marc

What are you looking for in a seat?

Me, I do NOT like the thickly padded seats, I prefer a thinner seat (if I use one at all).  I prefer one side rubberized so it does not slip on a hill in wet grass.

I cannot tell if the FA vest has a game vest to carry birds out or not, and I cannot tell if it has any padding on the back (which I have come to enjoy on my Cabela's vest).

At half the price of a Sitka or Kuiu, it seems like a well-made vest for the money.

Did I do that?

I thought the same as you, and bought one a couple weeks ago. I have used it on 3 hunts now. It has a pretty thick seat with some real firmness to it. It's no turkey chair, but it suits me just fine. The seat retraction system is pretty sweet as well. It literally cannot fall down and flap once it is pulled up. I personally like it better than the "ultralight" Ol Tom vest cushions I have had in the past. My only gripe about the vest is that the striker pockets are pretty snug. I had to really jam my Halloran strikers in there, but they seem to have loosened a bit.

I hunted out of an Ol Tom Essentials for the last 10 years until it finally was just too worn out to use. This has been a very suitable replacement thus far. It is lightweight, very adjustable (I am way too skinny for most vests- the Ol Tom Gunslinger could have fit three of me in it), and seems to be really durable.

Does it have a game vest attached to the seat, and does it have a padded back?

How adjustable is the sizing (I am slim 5'7") and most vests fit me like a dress.

Anyone weigh it?  You would think they would list the weight, if it is light!

I believe it says approximate weight is 4.5 lbs on the description.

I have not weighed it, but the last strut LITE is not 4.5 pounds. If I get a chance, I will weigh it tonight. Its light and carries really well with the straps. I did not notice any weight at all, to be honest.

There is a small pouch on the back, that is big enough for a wing and a rain jacket. It also has two water bottle pouches on the side of that pouch. They sell an attachable decoy/game back that clips to it, but I did not order one since I don't normally carry decoys, and haul my birds out with a strap.

It has pretty good padding on the upper back of the vest as well.

The adjustability is excellent. I am 6'1 and 155 pounds, and swim in any of the other current OSFM vests. I don't even have to have it cinched all the way down for it to fit me perfect. The shoulder straps are adjustable, which is great, because I like a high-riding vest. If I needed to, I could shorten them even further.

If it holds up over the next month, I think I have found my permanent replacement for the Ol Tom Essentials.

Thanks for your input. As you described the back it wont  carry a bird. Is the seat comfortable? I do like a high riding vest I have an old safe t back that rides high. Thanks again.

As far as turkey vest cushions go, I would say it is pretty good. It's probably not as good as an inner tube, but I think it is plenty serviceable. It is thicker, stouter, and more comfortable than most vest seats I have tried. I have had a cabelas, and two different Ol Tom's to compare it to. I feel like this is more comfortable than any of those.

And no, it will not carry a bird in the small pouch that is back there.

Old Timer

Well I ordered one looks like it will work. I don't  carry as much as I use to. Also ordered a turkey sling from Captain Hooks he makes nice stuff. Sometimes with carrying a bird in the back of my vest it is uncomfortable on my low back.
