Quote from: joey46 on April 01, 2025, 01:06:44 PMYes _ heaven help grandpa taking a picture of his grandson's first hunt.  This now almost sounds like a setup.  If MS intent is to discourage non-res they have succeeded.  Plenty of other states have the Eastern sub-species.

I'm in for $25 on their Go Fund Me page.

Looks like Mississippi is coming out with a turkey stamp next year. $10 for res and $100 for non-res. Wow.

My fingers are crossed hoping the draw odds are better and more funding for management. It's also a NR change of $50, not $100

This is to a DEGREE what I was saying in my spin off thread asking about WMA's.  Most are saying they are STATE owned!  How can the STATE say they own FEDERAL land???  And how can they convert them to WMAs, since they are Federal PUBLIC property?  Who is allowing this to happen?  It seems Mississippi is selling you guys a load of Goods, if this in fact true.
Fwiw most of our WMAs is land leased from the Corp of Engineers.

Mississippi will have another record number of applicants for the non-resident draw next year, guaranteed. Even with the $50 price increase to hunt here (the $100 turkey stamp will replace the $50 turkey permit) and the hurt feelings over THP's ticket.

Add Mississippi to a growing list of places to avoid, glad I went years ago!

Might get ugly all over in a few years and all the residents can rejoice!

Interesting how making it a draw created more demand. Other states need to take note of this fact

Ark, Idaho elk did the same thing. Somehow it creates some sort of panic demand. It also makes people get friends/family to apply just hoping one of them draws.

Like THP, before it was a draw just a few of them probably bought licenses to hunt and the others tagged along, but now they ALL apply to make sure someone gets a license.

Good point.  Almost like the panic buying of toilet paper during the pandemic.

I'm not sure that I'm thrilled with these video. Turkey hunters. I'm just not sure that I'm good with all of that video stuff.

Are these video guys good for turkey hunting? I'm not sure.

They are good for hunter recruitment for sure.  The good and the bad of that but at this point they are legally making a living.  I really think THP was set up in that law enforcement knew the one filming didn't have a license and were waiting for them.  They needed an example.  They got one.  This wasn't a chance encounter.

Since you're such a THP fan, you could show your support and offer Ted some emotional support during this difficult time. He's obviously very bothered.
Maybe a soft blanket or a box of tissues.

Every post you post is a crying about youtube. Just keep the tissue for yourself.

The down side of all this is that no matter which side you take it is all stealing our joy of a sport we're highly invested in. I have experienced all this for 50 years and spot burning isn't a new thing, but it moves faster now and it actually goes away just as quick. My solution has always been to look for new areas and be willing and able to move on. The state agencies are only reacting to the noise of a perceived problem by hunters. Hunters griping very well could have brought this on. I had a very good spot burned several years ago and I moved on to new territory, and after a couple years I went back and this same area was almost abandoned by hunters and I made hay. It all is cyclic. When it gets too bad and I can no longer find pleasure in this sport I will just quit and go fishing. Of course that's easier when your an old man and you lived through the glory years. I will say something I have preached to my children for years, "It's much easier to live life at peace then it is to be at war!

I'm waiting on Ted's "Go Fund Me" page.  I'm in for $25.  LOL.
BTW - anyone that thinks a $900+ fine for filming a hunt on public land isn't extreme is kidding themselves.
