Also finally getting around to posting about my second WV bird from a couple weeks ago.
I went to a spot I had scouted but not hunted yet this year. Knew it held birds but not where any were roosted. As soon as I got out of the truck one gobbled within 150 yards.i set up and he would gobble at everything but me.  at fly down he flew way down the mountain so I made the decision to look for another bird.

I made my way to a power line and spotted hens dusting about 500 yards away. I tried calling to them and a gobbler lit up in the holler between me and the hens. So I back tracked and looped down in the holler.

I set up the first time and called and he answered about 150 yards from me. I also realized I had sat in an anthill. I had to move again. I moved down the logging road and got up against an overturned stump. The road made a 90 degree turn about 20 yards from me so if he continued up the road by the time I could see him he would be within range.  As I continued to call it was like he read the script I wrote. He worked his way right up the road till I killed him at 19 steps.

The gun used was a first for me. It's a marlin model 60 g bolt action .410 I bought it as a freshman in college at a yard sale for $75 . It was made sometime between 1967 and 1969 and throws a heck of a pattern with herters tss. At the shot the gobbler just rolled backwards and never flopped. Overall I was impressed and the rig only ways 5.75 lbs.

:icon_thumright: congratulations, looks like you had a couple good stalks and got rewarded at the end. I never can understand road hunting unless you're disabled. A couple years ago I went on an elk hunt with a vet that could hardly walk, he has a hunting exemption that allows him to shoot from a vehicle. During the day we were walking some pretty flat ground and he fell really hard twice, in the end he shot a seven point bull... I don't know but as I'm now getting older maybe I'll be road hunting in a few years too...  :TooFunny:

Congrats Hill!! Thanks for the update. Lazy road shooters have no idea how dangerous it is. Glad you were safe and successful.

:icon_thumright: Getting your butt kicked with another bird is a good way to end the season, Jeff will be waiting for the story  :TooFunny: .

Congratulations! Did you bag your MN bird on public land? Also, love placing the Tag/Date cutout on the shotgun bolt!

Yes I killed it on a piece of public I'd marked from e scouting. Funny thing on the tag notches,  that's just where I happened to cut them on and after attaching the tag on the leg I thought that looked cool there, so I put the turkey vhy jt and and the call in there too lol
