This is the way I do it. I break it down, look inside the barrel trying to see how it looks from the inside. Then I spray it with Carburetor cleaner. I use a one piece rod with bronzed brush and scrub. Then I will use a bore mop to wipe out the barrel. If I am happy with it I will use denatured alcohol on patches or a wad of paper towels and push through the barrel. I don't want any oil in the inside of barrel.
