Ok guys I had a great time in North Alabama sat - Tue. Lots of good hunting with my lifelong best friend . We did not get it done but the memories we have will last all our life.
Im not gonna go into the whole hunt but the very first day we had multiple gobblers sounding off. Ok game on.
I didnt do much calling untill i knew they were on the ground.   Just some very soft stuff to let them know where we were.
Took 2 hours of back and forth  for them to work our way. I was hopping they would head across the holler and give my buddy a shot .
Of course they circled use and came in behind me.
I knew they were ther but could not see them because I was against a large oak. Randell was below me about 30 yards and he could see them and was giving me hand signals to let me know where they were. Finally I peek around and there he was in full strut glory. so i ease my head back, get my gun up  and waited for him to come in view.   He w came on down and gave me perfect 27 yard shot . I settle, line up the red dot. take a breath and  Booom !! He jumped and stood still giving me another chance. When I shoot I always shuck another shell instantaneous. But I could not .. my gun was jammed.   bird walks out of our life.
Ive never missed with that gun. still scratching my head.  The beach was open about half way, the spent shell was still in the gun and a new round was jamming up the works below the bolt.
20 g 870 by the way.    all I can figgure was maybe the breach as partially open when I fired and sent the bolt back enough to let a new shell come out of the magazine. Any way I had to pull the trigger pins and wiggle it partially out to be able to get the hung up shell out of the way .
Took the gun back home and shot it . it was spot on. went ahead and broke it down . cleaned ,lubbed and check every thing. cannot get it to repeat the failure.  I did find my wad and couple of possibly back or neck feathers . no blood.

You made memories.. called in a Tom, got your chance, hopefully the Tom makes it till next time. Makes the next successful hunt all that much better. Now if you're like me, you become obsessed with killing him...spending the rest of your season chasing a ghost bird... thanks for sharing, good or bad, we've all been there. Hope you get him!

Log it as "Happenstance". Sometimes things happen for no rhyme or reason.
You and your friend made some lasting memories on a great hunt.
Your gun checks out and you are go to go in Ga. Good Luck!

Sorry about the miss..it can happen.

Re:your gun I had the same thing happen several times with my Moss 835 so essentially I was hunting with a single shot. Called them. They sent me a replacement for the piece in the receiver which prevents another shell loading until the fired shell is ejected. No more problem.
