Here is my first attempt at a scratch box. Cherry box with a walnut sound board and cherry striker. It came out bigger than I expected. When I started, the piece of cherry I started with looked small. Now that it's done it seems to be to big. I need to make it almost half the size. After I got done I compared it to some of the scratch boxes I have and they were all alot smaller in size. It does sound pretty good.

Nice Joe what are the measurements on it? I make mine without that sound board I think it mutes the sound to much, but than again that's just my preference.

I like it, as far as the soundboard, I believe it helps in the resonation qualities. The internals are also as important, to deep makes for a hollow sounding scratcher, too thin, robs the tonal qualities. Your efforts will pay off, as I see you are striving to make a good sounding call over a good looking call. Even though looks are good, keep working in the direction you are...pappy

Thanks everybody. I'm still going to mess with it. I am going to change the size and try some different woods. I'll get the sound I want, I hope, eventually.
