Saw a poult get hit by a car on my way home from work tonight. Hen came jumping back out of woods trying to protect, I used truck to block road, got to poult, Hen ran back into woods, Poult just laid there, I picked it up and carried into woods, saw at least 3 maybe 4 poults with hen. Laid poult down and quickly moved my truck and got back to it, had head up now, I talked to it and a few minutes later it got up and walked towards me, saw left wing hanging, was able to pull up but then it would drop. Watched as it got its bearing and then walked off. Hope it makes it. Almost brought home.

Bad news.   Id guess it's chance of survival are pretty low with an injury like that.   I know I shouldn't, but I'd probably have taken it home.

I got a fawn out of the road in somewhat similar fashion recently. Saw the mother crossing the road and figured a fawn would be in tow, and sure enough it was. I came to a complete stop and the two got across the road. I eased up a few feet to give the baby deer some space as I was watching her and then one of those dropped down Honda civics with a loud muffler came around the curve and the noise rattled the fawn, and it ran back out into the road behind me and into the left front fender of the Honda. Of course, the Honda never stopped and went around me. I was horrified and got out and got the deer out of the road and took it over to the shoulder where the mother was standing up on the ridge watching me. I got the baby back on its feet and it went on towards its mother after she made some vocalizations to let it know she was up on the ridge above it. I think the deer made as it ran into the fender in a glancing blow and it was not a direct hit, but you just never know. I hate that for the baby turkey you found, they deserve better.

I'd have tried getting the poult and calling my local game warden. He likely would know a wildlife rehabilitator. I feel as GuessWho does. Probably a very low chance of survival with a broken wing.

At least you gave it a try, if you were not there, more most likely would have gotten hit....

Its a tight 2 lane rd, 40 mph speed limit, most do 50, was laying in passenger side tire path, Hen saved it from first car and really is what caught my attention. GW & RnS really thought about it, thats why I went back after moving truck. If it could not get up, I was debating putting it out of misery or bring home, we are very lucky to have a great bird rescue close by. But after watching it regain its composure, stand and walk, felt it had a chance, watched it make its way to a dead fall and lost sight of it. It was able to pull wing up, so maybe it wasnt broken?

I have had two incidents similar but both were with fawns. The first a fawn had tried to go through a a fence and got its back hips caught between two posts, I was able to free it and it ran off. The second incident was not so good. I fawn had tried to jump over a wire fence and caught its hind leg in the wire, Not sure how long it hung on the fence but when I was able to get it off its rear leg was cut and bleeding. When the fawn tried to run off it collapsed. Called the warden hoping there a rehabilitation place, there was not, so the warden dispatched the fawn. Still think of the fawns screams when i pass thar fence,

I'd like to think the poult makes it but it has a lot of challenges ahead of it to overcome.

Based on the title of your post, I have to ask.   Did you miss it on the first try?

J/K, I know it was your second attempt at posting the pictures, but now that the other thread is gone it looks like you missed hitting it on your first try.

I hope the little munshkin makes it.  Hopefully by it being able to pick its wing up and hold it in place means it's not broken.

Similar situation here on Sunday. I saw some poults and mama crossing the road and turned around to get a count and before I could get back, about a minute, a truck bombed through and hit 2 of them. Back road and he was going too fast. I took a chance and he was headed to the dump. I caught up to him and it was a young kid with a sideways hat. Needless to say we had a conversation, one sided, at above 85 decibels. I would have taken the keys away if it were my kid or we were back in the 70's when i grew up. No regard or respect anymore. Yes, I have become an old codger, thank the lord. Z :smiley-patriotic-flagwaver-an
