Had hunt scheduled for 6 months with outfitters.
Just fell through, now have to make a decision.
Push out till next year or use airline ticket and money was going to spend on outfitter on a diy hunt.
Talked to SD and Nebraska DNR office, both say turkey hy on public land possible.
Now trying to make up mind do we try Black Hills or go-to Chadron area. Any input appreciated.
Down to the last minute.

My suggestion is to try to reach out to Shane Simpson ...

When I turkey hunt I use a DSD decoy

Spring Creek Calls

I've done both DIY hunts successfully. They are so close why not do both if you have time.

Go to the black hills. I see no reason for an outfitter there whatsoever. The prairie in SD is a different story but even then there's a lot of walk in areas in some units.

Chadron. Flock in every canyon. If u can't kill a turkey there u can't cluck.

WY tags over the counter.  SD's aren't.  I've been putting a western trip off for 2 years.  Will do one next month - maybe ::).  After all the Chadron jokes are over remember it hasn't been quite the same since large fires a few years back.  The Pine Ridge NF supposedly gets hammered by the early bow hunters.

Just out of curiosity what caused the pine ridge to start getting hammered?

SD tags are by application, but available. On short notice I'd call and talk to them. You may have to pick up the tag in Fort Pierre at the main office. I'm doing a DIY there mid May and already have tag. I do have some knowledge of the area because my daughter lives in Pierre, but I have never hunted the BH and it will be knew to me. Go for it is my advice. I wouldn't worry about where to hunt, there are birds throughout the Black Hills and they move a lot from what I hear.

SD you have to purchase/apply online and they mail the tag. Last two years from the time I did the app online to the tag was in my hand was 5 days.

True but also other social medias and forums like this. People just can't keep their mouth shut. Take this thread for example. Before to long someone will open their big mouth and give out way to much info.
