With my work schedule messing up my 3 day weekend to alabama a few weeks ago I was finally able to go this past weekend. Good lord it was windy and tough. This is the 3rd year in a row that I drove down and got my tail whooped in alabama. It's almost funny at this point. I have not timed the turkeys and weather yet for my 3 day weekend. But persistency is key and I will be back next year. Got REAL close Sunday morning before I had to make the 7 hour drive home. I botched the set up. Just making this post for you guys out there that travel. You'd think alabama would be a slam dunk by looking online... but man it has whipped my rear end 3 times. Lord willing I will try next year and maybe.. just maybe... I will finally put my hands on an alabama longbeard. Back home now for kentucky season Saturday. Got a better feeling about that one! Lol

Alabama birds are tough. Didn't realize how tough til I hunted birds in another state. Think easterns in this region are just difficult.

It has been windy. Made it tough spraying a pair of pants with sawyers the other day. Lol

Man MS, AL, and LA are never a slam dunk. I've been all over and these are the toughest. These birds especially public get educated or die quick, mix that with bad weather and it makes for a rough go.

Im sure it was great just to be out there and in the game. Good luck in Kentucky and hope your successful next year.

Thank you brother, yes the wind was killer. I was able to call one longbeard in And he came up to the worst spot possible and a clean shot just wasn't an option, I also kinda spooked the hell out of him trying to get that clean shot lol playing the game was fun enough sometimes the turkey wins. That's okay with
Me.

this will be my second year attempting alabama if i even make it there. especially later in their season. I went fairly early last year. never even heard a gobble. I wasnt in a very good area, but i covered a lot of ground in the 2 days  on this piece of property and only cut 2 tracks the entire time i was there. Bad weather as well. Im used to tough states with few opportunities, but that has probably been the worst so far. I too, from what i have seen online thought it would be better, but was quickly humbled back into reality.

We have all been there. Can't fight weather and "Turkey mood". Sometimes the chase and close encounter is just as good a memory as the harvest. Good luck moving forward......be safe.

Traveling to hunt anything can be tough! It took me 3 years of making the 11hr drive to Ohio to finally kill a Turkey on our lease. Everything possible prevented me from killing one in the first 6 trips. It was still fun and has made the last 10 successful trips that much sweeter!

My luck in Maine is going to have to end eventually I've been batting 1000 there for far too long!

Don't be too hard on yourself. Unless a guy has a ticket to hunt turkey utopia, trying to kill a gobbler in three days in any unfamiliar territory is a gamble.  Add all the variables in play (weather, hunter pressure, vocality of the birds, etc.) in trying to do that on public land and that makes it even tougher.  In my opinion, anybody that only allows three days for a hunt in unfamiliar territory is a real optimist.   :D
