For those of you that live or hunt in NM, what are the best dates to turkey hunt there? Is the April 15th opener too early or are they usually fired up good during that time frame? I'd rather avoid the snow too. Thanks for any advice as I know nothing on New Mexico

 I've been out here all week and the weather has been awesome. A little windy for a couple of days but I'm sure you'll have that no matter when you come.

Group of us went 2 seasons ago during the first week of a May and some were henned up but a lot of gobbling and the ones you found without hens didn't take much to call in.

Lot's of dead space, vast areas with no turkeys and pockets with plenty!  Opener was tough this year, snow and wind and grouped up birds that were silent on the ground for the most part.

I killed my two in the first week, one on the opener and one several days later, lots of slow time and a ridiculous amount of miles on the boots and vehicle!
