Double Bearded Jakes?

I normally pass on jakes but this year they were a ton of em and they were running things and calling all of the shots. After reading a post on here about a bullying gang of jakes and seeing that alot of people recommended dropping a few of them to give the toms a break, I decided to try it. It worked. I dropped a jake this season that had a 5 1/2 inch beard and a 2 inch beard. I have seen a tom or two in the group the past few years that had multiple beards but never thought of jakes having em.

Sounds to me like a super jake! Congrats on the double beard!

same thing happened to me this turkey season. i have yet to seen a double bearded jake until i killed one this year. but not only did i kill one, i killed two. and one of my buddies killed 2 double bearded jakes. very odd. heres a pic of my two double bearded jakes i killed this season getting all dried out..

Mine looks exactly like the middle one pictured there. The jakes seem to be runnin the place actin like the big boys this year. Full gobbles with struttin and all.

its odd. thats the same with the second one i killed this last sunday (the left set of beards) except he even showed his dominance in front of a big full blow mature gobbler, strutting, gobbling, everything. right in front of about 15 hens. and i dont if i was seeing this correct but he was trying to breed a few of the hens. someone correct me if i'm wrong but me and one of my friends watched this bird and a gobbler breed, between the 2 of them, about 15 hens for a time period of 2 and half hours. do jakes even breed?!

guesswho

Yes jakes will breed if given the chance.

Most of your double bearded long beards were once double bearded jakes.

They have to start as jakes to get to be Toms.  So, the double beard has to start then and you just aren't able to see it.

Uncle Bucky

My second bird was a double beard jake, 3" and 1 1/2" , didn't know it when I shot it, only that it was a state property bird 2 minutes after shooting light and it gobbled on the roost, flew to my decoys , gobbled and got shot  :z-guntootsmiley:

I killed a triple bearded jake two years ago on public land. He had a 5" beard and two 3" beards.

He's big enough to ride in my truck!

R AJ

My wife killed her first ever this year and it was a thick double bearded jake with 3.5" beards.

Struttin Spurs

My first ever bird was a quadruple bearded jake. Had I known he had four beards I would have let him live another year. What a trophy he would have been.

One of the guys in our group in SD this years killed a triple bearded Jake I've seen a few double bearded Jakes but that was my first triple I've ever seen
