Questions 870 SM 665 IC 4s vs 9s.

Hey Bird Hunters


Been doing a lot of Research for my Uncle. He has a Rem 870 SuperMag. He loves LB's 4s. I got him an IC 665 on the way. He is a very passionate turkey hunter. I have fed TSS 9s but he really likes the 4s. Should I have him rip some 5s ?  Hes 60, big man, so trying to show him a 3inch 1 7/8th oz load of tss will crush a 2 1/4 LB 4s load. 5s are different story.


From what I am reading on other sights too........   The 870 Super Mag, IC 665. and TSS 9s might be the best Turkey shell, choke, gun, combo I've ever seen.


Any other chokes or shells I should get him. He's not an interent guy.

I've never done 4's. I shoot 5's longbeards. Great pattern. I tried 3" tss 9's in my supermag with IC choke awesome pattern at 40.

I'm going to be posting some pics here in the next few days of a Remington Special Purpose Super Magnum, using an Indian Creek .665. I will be shooting 40yds and will clean the barrel after every shot. I will be testing 4 loads. Longbeard 3.5" #5s and #6s, Federal TSS 3.5" #9s, and Federal 3rd Degree TSS 3.5" #5-7s.

I've got a 11-87 sm with the .665 IC choke last year I was down to two of my perfered load choice of h13 2.25 6's and wanted to shop locally and find a cheaper alternative load as this is no longer my go to gun I shot all 3.5 shells that I could source locally of Lb 5 and 6's one was the higher speed and the other the lower but don't remember which one was which and was not happy with either pattern at all way to tight at 20 and low counts at 40 I then got the 3rd degree and mag blends both gave me huntable patterns but still no where close to tried and true with 3rd degree being what I would go with out of those choices I broke down and ordered seven boxes of the h13 2.25 6's and got 246/243 at 40 and the 20 doesn't look  like you pushed a baseball through the target as for straight tss I think it's over kill over priced and not needed in a 12ga
