I notice some ivory tipped strikers on here...so I was just wondering if any of you have tried deer antler and how it sounded?

Yes, I have made several two piece strikers with a deer antler tip.  In my case, I get a soft, raspy sound.  I have played with several different  shaft lengths and striker heads trying to get a higher pitched sound.  So far, nothing with a high, young hen sound.

I have included several as the second striker with a call.  Feed back indicates strikers were used mainly as a finishing call.

Makes a nice looking striker with a dark wood shaft and head.

Hope this helps, e-mail me if I can be of further help.

I've been wanting to try some antler as well for some striker tips.  Wonder what the difference is with Ivory vs. Antler? I thought Antler was "Ivory Like" .  Does Ivory have a higher pitch?  I know it certainly has a higher price!
