saturday broke clear and finally rain free, alittle wet from this past week of rain.this season has been good to me this year, killed a real
nice bird may 12,but this has been the first day my head has been into hunting and only hunting.got on some birds fist thing in the morning birds gobbled good too good some other hunters came in from below me and behind me after hour of gobbling and not moving any where.oh well thats public land, went to move on the bird and ran into a hunter calling below me and decided to pull out and go to plan b.on my way to top of the mountain where i started this morning i found a small y buck shed.while taking a water break i heard a gobble out the ridge from me,called gobbled three more times but went away.we played cat and mouse for the next two hours untill 11:00 i threw in the towel and could keep up with him anymore.all in all it was a good day even though i did`nt pull the trigger.my wife and i are dog lovers, alway had a dog and probably always will.this past tuesday we made the decsion to have our 9 year old english setter put down after losing his battle with brain cancer.the month of april jake was`nt his self, after having his first seizure we finally understood why.our local vet could`nt find anything and refered us to a specialist.after meeting with him and some test he told us jake has a brain tumor.after seizure med.`s and prednisone to shrink the tumor jake made 100% turn around,we both knew it was`nt a fix but we would take it as long as we could.after a week and half seizure free they started again and this time they were alot worse.we both knew what had to be done but was hard making the decsion.its been difficult around the house this week,i keep telling myself its just a dog but i know he was much more than that.this dog has gone on weekend camping trips to getting up with me at crack of dawn to go out and listen for turkeys to just riding along to the hardware store.rest in peace jake you are gone but will never be forgotten.

My condolences on the loss of your buddy.  That's a tough thing to deal with.  Getting in the woods is good therapy though.

I hate to hear that.  Maybe Jake is now running around with my Lugar and Lexie who we lost this year.  RIP Jake!
If I'm not back in five minutes, wait longer!

You're right, they're not just dogs.
My huntin' dogs have been some of my best friends.

We feel for you it is so hard when they are ill and you have done all you can to protect them. Prayers to you both. Our fourteen old is fighting Cushing's (also a tumor) and other issues but she is doing good for now.
