   Lighthearted Thread here.
So my Brother  in Law recently had a conversation  about  Gobbler #1 of New Jersey. Both of us have had a Good 3 Gobblers each Spooked by Gobbler #1 as he aggressively  entered the Field and moved on In super fast in the Direction  of the last Gobble.
And our Decoys are right there.. Now this guy must be in his 80s by now. Small + Wirey . And quick on his Mountain Bike.
Kind of Funny now as " just perhaps"- Gobbler #1 Spooked all those Field Gobblers and it was not on purpose.  But being long retired- he will be back the next day.
So yeah- Winter " Turkey Talk" with my Brother in law about Gobbler #1.
I know if,I  see those New Jersey special  License plates-- I might as well head to the deep Swamp- LOL!
Hope Y'All enjoyed this Lighthearted Thread .

I remember  one morning , I  was talking to Gobbler #1 in a Field when a Tom Gobbled 200 yards away In another Field. To get to him,I  would have to cross a Swamp in knee deep water So that is what,I  did. Took a good 20 minutes.
Now this Gobbler was still Vocal . I set up on that field edge and the Gobbler was coming to my Calling.
All of a sudden- sounded like back some from a Field Corner, I  heard a few Gravelly  words from someone and aimed at the Gobbler.
Another 30 seconds and,I  heard a repeat of a Low Toned Old Guy Speaking a few words.
Yup- it was Gobbler #1!  He must have backtracked out of the 1st field and Mountain  Biked over to this 2nd Field.
Thd Gobbler was Spooked and Sprinted away.
That was a May 30th in New York with 1 day to go.  My Brother  in law and,I  had a laugh over that story- but believe  me,I  was fit to be tied at the time-LOL!

Hooksfan

Mebbe its just me, but the most impressive part of that story is that an eighty year old is still that nimble on a mountain bike.
Old dude might be spooking dem birds on purpose and killing them later...ole dudes kinda roll that way sometimes.

quavers59

Hear ya hooksfan.  I remember  2 guys on different days come in to the parking lot after a Spring Hunt and talk about an old Dude on a Mountain Bike that cost them both Gobblers.
Ol John/ Gobbler #1 struck again.

May just be a 30 year old crack head.  Most of them look 80, have plenty of energy, and can't afford a car so they ride a bike, usually someone else's bike.  If it's a different color bike every-time you see him, my money's on crack head.
If I'm not back in five minutes, wait longer!

I knew it was a lighthearted thread.   My reply was a failed attempt at humor.

Lol- ol Gobbler #1 needs to read Eggshells  Thread--- Who We Are In The Woods-- Reflects Our Character In Life.

Talking to my Brother in Law last night- he told me that while he was working a Gobbler from a Field Edge- he heard Loud Hen calling around 50 yards down the line from him and somewhat back in the Wetlands.
All that Loud Yelping served to Budge indeed that Field Gobbler and my Brother  in Law said the Tom briskly walked to the other side of the Field and promptly  disappeared  into the Wetlands on the other side.
My Brother in Law had a Decoy out too. The other guy " must" have seen the Decoy...
On Leaving shortly thereafter- my Brother  in Law came upon a Half Hidden  Mountain  Bike very close to the Field where the Gobbler was making slow progress  to his Decoy + Soft calling
My Brother  in Law said it was the Mountain Bike of John/ New Jersey Gobbler #1..

Sounds like your BIL just got out called that day. Gobbler just wanted to hear some excited calling that day, maybe he didn't like the decoy

Interesting stories about your encounters with this individual, although I must admit I am not grasping your light-hearted take on them.  In the back of my mind, I somehow suspect that his version of the events of which you speak would be a bit different.  If it was not, then my only conclusion would be that he is deliberately sabotaging your hunts.  Based on the number of instances of apparent negative interaction you have had with him, one might conclude that there is a bit of bad blood between you which might account for his actions.

Your comment about him being a leader in the local NWTF community makes me doubt that he would be the unethical sort which you describe.  Although I am not a big fan of that organization anymore, I can't say I have ever met someone in a position of leadership in NWTF that exhibited those kinds of turkey hunting ethics. Therefore, I am leaning towards my first notion that he probably has a very different version of the events in question.

Regardless, the moral of your story should be that there are indeed turkey hunting behaviors which are unacceptable if done intentionally.  If your version of your interactions with this fellow is the factual one, then his behavior would be a glaring example.

Indeed Gobblenut. Very Factual events going back a good 15 years or so. I have not touched on the 4 Spring Hunters who according to them had their Spring Hunts Ruined.
Lighthearted  only because my Brother  in law and,I  were Laughing about the exploits  of John/ Gobbler #1. My Brother in law had at least 3 Hunts ruined. He was not laughing back then however ..
I don't  know if all these Spring Hunts were ruined Intentionally by Gobbler#1- but when 6 Spring Hunters talk about the same guy-- something is up..

Happy

I guess I am just not seeing what is so funny about singling someone out and belittling them behind their back. I am all for fun and humor but to me this seems childish.
