Skunk spray

Hot tip for you guys.
They make this product called Tecnu for poison ivy/oak treatment. You can find it at walgreens. A while back I read the label and found this Tecnu stuff was supposed to also remove skunk smell from you, your clothes, and your dog.
Well, my dog got sprayed this fall and I remembered what I read on this Tecnu label. I gave it a shot and man did it work good. Apply it like shampoo on the affected areas. Rub it in and wash it off with dog shampoo.
The dog was sprayed pretty good on the side of her head and neck. After treatment there was only a hint of skunk smell on the side of her head. Really had to smell hard to find it. The dog was allowed to immediately go in side the house the product worked so well.

As someone surrounded by skunks and with a dog who appears to have the Pepe Le Pew complex, thank you. I've tried everything else and it don't work so I'll give this a shot next go round.

I did some research a while back and I guess the product was originally designed to leach mustard gas from your skin. Apparently it has other applications as well. I recommended it to a guy who had grout burns on his neck and shoulders. Everytime he exposed it to sunlight he would break out into a rash. He said it had been going on for some time before he tried this Tecnu stuff and it cleared it right up.

I have a friend who is a retired USDA predator control agent. What a gig! Get paid to kill predators by the Feds. PETA must not know about this. Anyway, he swears by Neutroleum alpha to rid the smell from your dog. One of his rancher buddies verified to me it works well as they have a dog that just doesn't learn.

This Tecnu stuff removes the smell altogether. No masking. Your dog is left smelling like.....well a wet dog who just took a bath.

Wish I would have known this about a year ago. A skunk got under our privacy fence and we let out boxer/pit out back to use the bathroom well needless to say he went after the skunk and it didn't end well for him. We tried everything, baking soda and dawn dish soap, skunk away products from the vet and pet stores, regular dog shampoo. We finally got it under control but for about a month after when he got wet from the rain or got a bath you could still slightly smell it coming off of him.

The only time I smell skunk is when someone has fired up some herb.
I can't remember the last time I have saw a skunk in Georgia. We have them but not many where I live and the areas that I hunt.

All three of these stay around a good bit. There for a few years the dog got hit at least once each spring. We tried everything. The tomato juice, the peroxide and baking soda, all of it. Old Chaz hated every minute of it

I can't describe the smell when it's sprayed that close, it's like a rotted onion. And our poor boy Baxter has a white muzzle and chest and he was just yellow from the spray.
