Quote from: Ihuntoldschool on April 07, 2025, 09:53:41 AMIf I were you I'd lean towards M2 or Affinity if you want inertia.

SX 4 or A300 if you want gas.

I would stay away from an auto loader made in Turkey.
Thank you for some solid advice
I'm gonna look into the M2

General Forum / Re: Which Jake decoy
Last post by Marc - April 07, 2025, 05:47:38 PM
Intuitively, almost anyone would go with a DSD or Zink, or other realistic decoy over the Funky Chicken.  It is difficult to imagine that such an unrealistic decoy would do anything but scare birds off...  But...

I have a buddy that put some decoys out for some residential birds...

Had several hen decoys, DSD jake, and Funky chicken...  According to him they addressed the Funk every time over the DSD.  I was witness to one such trial, and I was immediately impressed by the birds completely ignoring the DSD to go to that Funky Chicken with extreme aggression.

I previously used a Zink Jake, which looks quite realistic...  I have had birds come to address that decoy, but not nearly with the ferocity of the Funk...

When birds do address the Funky Chicken, it usually gets the "wing-slap."  One time the silly thing when flying through the air, rolling down hill after getting slapped.

Really cool talking to you Moye and picking up one of your Trumps at the Palmetto Classic. A good time and hope it was productive for you. Love the DBW carry case and am enjoying the call!

All the best!

Sounds good-you're creating a very young hen sound and as mentioned above, I'm digging the bubble clucks  ;D

My EDC is a Victorinox Swiss Army Spartan. It's been the most carried of any of my pocket knives since I got my first one in 1977 or so for signing up for an REI Co-op membership. I did carry a Buck 110 when I was in the USN. That thing got used and abused maintaining a jet fuel system on ship board.

For cleaning birds I keep an old Remington Uplander and a Grohmann Trout and Bird knife in my hunting tool kit. For field dressing deer I keep an old Buck 110 in my backpack.

Can you tell tell me your thoughts on afternoon hunting and why that would be helpful? I attempted to hunt these birds until about 10:30 by sitting in the location where we thought would be the best spot for them to enter our property from the field. I went and ate lunch came back around 12:30 hit the call with no response. I sat for say another 30 minutes and gave up for the day. When you say afternoon do you mean like at 5-6pm? I can hunt in the afternoons.

Quote from: RutnNStrutn on April 07, 2025, 02:03:59 PMIf you can legally hunt afternoons, that would be worth a try.
Without being able to put eyes on the field, you can't know what's going on or judge their reactions to your tactics.
