Hello all, my name is John and I'm an idiot.

Great read everyone.

Im able to identify what most are saying.

Last season. Jake's, Jake's, and more Jake's. Not a lot of hens.

I've had 2 straight season's where there were an abundance of Jake's.

This year you would think I'd be covered up w/2yo's. This wasn't the case. Still covered up with them and not a lot of hens.

I did call in 4 long beards together a couple of weeks ago. I've never had that happen to me. Four seemed to be a bit odd. I would think the breeding is over when adult males re assemble like this.

Most have read about the cancellation of Nj's fall turkey season. I'm hoping my home state reduces the bag limit as well. All things to be considered here, I hope we can find the answers.

Be Well

Quote from: Turkeybutt on June 02, 2025, 07:27:55 AMI like my Red and Green dot Holosun optics but when looked at scopes for my turkey setup  2 or 3 years ago I just never found anything I liked.
Ultimately I ended up mounting a Vortex Strike Eagle 1-8 x 24. Great scope, and outstanding company to work with if you ever have a problem.

I have a Holosun 501C Green on my Retay Turkey 20 gauge and love it. I've got a Vortex Defender on my "liberal state" pump Winchester SXP 20 gauge. But after all this talk, I'm leaning to trying out a Hawke on that liberal state gun. The issue with my 12 GA SBE 3 and the leopold is the scar on me and my friends forehead from patterning it in with TSS. But I do love a scope and the Hawke seems good. I love Leopold but the issue is buying one, then spending another $200 or so getting it dipped because I'm gonna have to have it camo. Looks like the Hawke would be better than the red dot I have. So now I have decisions to make lol

Push Pin Turkey Calls / Re: Shannon push-pin on eBay r...
Last post by Old Gobbler - June 02, 2025, 09:48:20 AM
Turkey call flipping ...and collecting

How does it effect "me" ? Shannon Kelly-

I make calls , in fact I have the mentality and ability to make many things ..my father (serious hunter ) and grandfather were manufacturers..there was a time frame when things were kinda "tight"  thats a understatement ...today they call it "fixed income " it's a nice way of saying (poor) ..well there was a long stretch of my early childhood we were  in a  dire financial situation- I was embarrassed of it ..today I will proudly state we were very poor ..and the experience made me the man I am today - ...believe it or not 50 years ago 20 dollars for a box call was alot of money , so we made our own ...it was born out of necessity

I have a fascination with push pin calls this has been going on for nearly 45 years  , the SOUND of my pushpin calls I make ..is second to none ...im saying this with HUMBLENESS,

I've pointed too many times the materials like musical grade hardwoods and special soundboard..made videos etc...it is highly technical,  I took me decades to figure out , I can only make so many of them ...end of story

Like a high end violin or guitar...the wood is what makes it good ...it may look nice .. but it's the materials and tuning that what sets my push pins above anything ..again spoken with HUMBLENESS - there are some crazy trade secrets making any type of came call , pushpins are no different -

Both me and my wife have known for years I could have simply took all my calls and placed them on ebay and made ALOT more money completely cutting out the middlemen , and sadly screwing over my valued customers...I take it to heart money doesn't grow on trees ...should I point out my portion of my childhood where I was so poor 45 cents for lunch money was a issue ?

So "core values" the kind that are burned into your soul come into play here - am I going to "sell out " and try a bilk every dollar out of hard working people ..the answer is ..HELL NO ..my daddy didn't raise me that way

I will say this , I understand folks might be hard up for $$ , trust me I know,  lol - but if you flip a call for personal gain , you are letting go of a pushpin call that is not only BEST SOUND in the world .. , but you will likely never get another for personal use in YOUR LIFE  ...once it's gone ...its GONE lol

I want you to all know  I decline DAILY requests to sell directly to customers-

The last few years of me ditching the list , going to "smash and grab " listings has frustrated the hoard of deep pocket call flippers , they have managed to get a few and resell them ..

If you are interested in purchasing a call so that you can treat it like a investment instead of a tool to have a good hunt ,  please hit the road -

Shannon

The average bird registered(top 9 for each team) was 62.018. This is definitely not your average bird. The hunters here are an exceptional group. To put it in perspective, every bird shot averaged 22 pounds, a 10" beard and 1" spurs. That is compared to around here, 19 pounds, 9" beard and .875 spurs. Thats a 54.5 point bid, which is about what I average. Hats off to everybody here, Z
