Title: Bird down on Illinois opener
Post by: ILHUNTER on April 16, 2019, 10:47:51 AM
Opening morning was a cold 29 degrees in Illinois.  A little bit of sweet talking to his hens on the limb made things interesting.  Had a hen flydown 5 feet to one side of me and another walk within 10' on the other side of me.  The other 5 flew down about 40 yards right out in front of me.  They were all just a yelping lightly to try to find that other hen, luckily they didn't bust me and he came strolling in at 30 yrds and made his only gobble on the ground right before the shot.
One of the lightest birds Ive ever shot only weighed 15 lb 13 ounces, guessing the hens must have wore him out.

Awesome job!!  You got the runt of the litter! :-) maybe he is just so old that he's wasting away.  Nice hunt!
