Title: Old Special Purpose 870
Post by: kytrkyhntr on July 11, 2018, 06:19:53 PM
I have one of those old bottomland Remington's. The barrels around 24 inches. What do those old Remington's like best in your all's experience? Thanks

(Guns not for sale ????????)

.660 is a great start. I have an old 870 and it loves a Rhino .660. I have a Sumtoy .660 I still haven't had a chance to shoot. I believe the first weekend in Aug I'll get to the range.

Mine loves the Carlson's Longbeard XR choke with Longbeard XR's #5s in the 2 1/8 oz (heavier of the loads they offer) in 3 1/2 inch.

That's just my gun, I've heard many guys' guns prefer the 2oz #6's if you're going the Longbeard route those might be two places to start.

Definitely other options to consider, but for my gun I've found it's hard to beat the performance of the Longbeards for the price.

Mine has a 23" pipe.  I shoot a jellyhead 660 and 3.5" magblends.   It will not set paper records but it is a great hunting gun!

It sure is. Like stated before, the original jellyhead .660 works good too.

870SM/ 28"bbl

140's-160's in a 10 @ 40/ Ventilator .655.  Win XX 3/2/6's

100-115 in a 10 @ 40/ Remington SF .665. Win XX HV 3/ 1 3/4/ 5's

Shoot double beads and these set ups suit 98% of the hunting situations I end up in. Nice to just be able to go down to Wal Mart and grab a couple of boxes of $10 shells.
