Congrats, catman!

I killed one this morning. I was rushed to take pics so I'll post them later. Just got back from my son's soccer match and now it's yard work time.

Yesterday, I was covered up with birds. I hunted FC and heard at least ten fairly close by. Had two fly down in the field with three hens but they would not leave their girls. Five jakes came in to inspect my decoys. They hung around for a bit and then went on their merry way. All the other gobblers stayed in the woods until this guy came out alone around 8:45. Called to him. As soon as he saw the dekes he struttted all the way to the boom. Sorry about not posting last night. It was a long day yesterday. I'm sitting here in another area at FC. Hopefully an upgrade is near.

Went this morning with a coworker and we had a great morning and ended up killing two birds. Birds were gobbling great on the roost. We decided to set up on one that was roosted on a ridge that lead into a field. Well, after fly down he continued to gobble great but just wasn't going to budge. After a short while he decided he had waited enough for the hen and he went the opposite way. While we were discussing our next plan, a gobbler had managed to sneak in silently to our right. Let's just say we weren't ready for that. As luck would have it. He must have liked the decoy in the field because he made a straight path right to it and my friend shot him at 20yds.
After the shot, we could hear another bird gobbling across the road on the same property, so we went after him. As we made our way through the woods which were very open, we would crow call and he would answer. We decided to set up a little further away because of the woods being open and flat ground. I started with just some clucks and soft yelps and he closed the distance quickly. Within 5min we could see him coming straight to us, then two jakes came out of nowhere and he was chasing them all over the place. At that time I thought it was over, but I guess he still wanted to find that hen, he then turned from chasing the jakes and came straight in. I was using a 20g 870 that I recently bought and it rolled him. First bird I have ever shot with a 20g. Looks like I may be carrying it more often.  Unfortunately, he isn't an upgrade, but he sure made my day. What a great day to be in the woods.

I've killed two birds this week, both probably score right around the 60 mark. I have pics and I'll get them posted in the score thread some time in the next couple days. Hoping to upgrade this upcoming week though.  I have a trip to Kansas and a trip to Nebraska before its over with so still plenty of opportunity.

Good luck to everyone this weekend.

I got my first for the season. Yesterday morning in Cookeville I called one in at 40yds but he worked to my right and went down a ridge so I tried to cut him off and we both had the same idea as were we sounds go but he beat me there so that didn't work out. Then I left and headed east. When I got to the top of a field and looked out there was a lonely gobbler at the other end. I army crawled behind a cedar tree and made one call. He came running and circled around me where I couldn't get a shot so I let him walk away. Finally, this morning I sat up where I thought some would roost the night before and lucked up. He gobbled on the roost and flew into the field. I made a few calls and he came running. I needed this because this season has been whipping me. Dude ended up having some beard rot though. Still a 10in beard just scraggly.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170415/46f9d3ceae5f5f945309ab7d13ebd93f.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170415/7838582391789c0f6a18aa113616558e.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170415/043bd5bd283f80f74b320b57a91b258b.jpg)

Congrats, fellas!  Hopefully more birds will fall.

I took my dad this morning. Called in a nice 2 yr old. He was with two hens but they split so I figured we had a shot.

They have been weird this year. Been a tough year but this team has still put a lot of big birds on the ground.

Just got home from a trip out west. Managed to knock down two more birds but wasn't able to secure an upgrade. Both birds I killed were a little light, one had a good beard and baby spurs and the other had really nice spurs but only a 3.5" beard.  Maybe too little too late anyway. Better luck next year guys.
Last pic is 2017 beards for my dad, brother, and I... Seems like I might have had some bad luck on when my turn came due because they killed some really high scoring birds.
Overall a good season, my goal was 4 for the year and thats exactly what I got. Puts me at an even 50 overall now.
