Title: "Old" Win. XX Turkey 12 ga 2 3/4" 1 5/8oz #6 shot
Post by: WildTigerTrout on October 01, 2015, 05:51:05 PM
I recently found three full boxes at a gun show and snatched them up. The box has the old original gray Jim Crumley Tre-Bark pattern on the package. My best guess is they were manufactured in the early 1980's. Anyone have any experience with these? I plan to try them in my old 1958 vintage Model 12 or maybe even my mid-1970's Ithaca/Tikka 12ga/222 turkey gun. Both firearms are 2 3/4" chambers.

Shot a bunch of turkeys with those loads out of my 1937 Model 12. Shot both 4's and 6's with the same results, dead turkeys. I believe I still have a few in my turkey ammo box. As always, pattern them to find your max range.

Man those boxes sure do bring back some memories!  The first gun I remember shooting them in was a Mossberg 500.  Buffer would be all in the box and turkey vest! ????????

That is the first turkey load I ever bought, box of no. 4's.  Wish I still had the box, just for old times sake.

I went 10 for 10 with a box way back when, before optics, special guns, etc. Shot in an 1100 with a bead sight. Mike

My shell in a Rem Wingmaster 870 30" full choke and at my set distance of 30 yards and in it never failed me. As others have said, one of the best loads ever in 2 3/4" . I recall them being copper plated but may be wrong.

I nearly got sentimental thinking about those passed hunting years when I could run or trot to most any turkey within hearing distance. Now getting harder to hear them and I dang sure can't run any more.

For lead shells, they perform really well. I have a few boxes of the 3 inch in those old trebark patterned boxes.

I just checked my 12 gauge turkey loads and, in the real tree containers,  I've got a full box of #4 but only 3 shells in #5, all 3". At the end of turkey season a few years back, these and others went on sale, but I haven't seen that happen in quiet a while.

What gun and choke?? I have several of the same load and have yet to find a combo to get good results from. 2 Brownings  and a Remington. Several chokes too.
