Title: Looking to get a 20 gauge
Post by: wvufan22 on May 22, 2021, 01:22:40 AM
Looking to get a 20 gauge automatic for next season. For the past 3 years I've hunted with my old trusty 870 (with great success) I would like to stay under $700-800.

Franchi Affinity. Shop and you can find em in that range. Flat black and even Mossy Oak Bottomlands. Already drilled and tapped if you want optics, light weight (6 lbs), fairly easy to find a TSS/choke combo, can be had in either full size or compact, and is inertia driven so no gas seals to fail or nasty gas residue.

Alright thanks. Would you prefer an Affinity over a Stoeger 320?

The M3020 is a good gun from what I have heard/read. Not much experience with them. I have with the Affinity, Remington 1100s and 11-87s, Berettas, and couple of older model Winchesters. The M3020 is not drilled/tapped if you plan to run optics. It's about $200.00 less than Affinity. Maybe a M3020 owner will chime in here for you....

Get you Franchi Affinity Elite with pistol grip stock in boottomland, it's already drill for rail and just one sweet gun. I just bought the Franchi Affinity Elite 3 turkey gun in 20 ga.

I have zero complaints with my M3020 so far. Just added the steadygrip stock to it. Debating on getting it drilled and tapped

I'm definitely going with one of them. Now it's just basing it off how each one feels when I hold it. Has anybody used an Indian Creek Black Diamond choke in either gun?

I wasn't able to find an IC choke before season (I would like to try one though), but the Sumtoy .562 and the Patternmaster Code Black Turkey work well in my M3020 (Code Black Turkey has a little better hunting pattern).  The stock choke also performs well. With Longbeard and Hevi-13 it was neck and neck with the Sumtoy, haven't shot TSS through the stock choke.

Here is mine and patterns with three chokes. The Sumtoy .562 is one of them...

Pretty tough to come by right now. I have been searching since December, received emails from 4 different shops saying they were back in stock, and all of them were sold out in the hour or two of trying to buy one. That is why I added the Steadygrip to my M3020 (also had trouble finding the Steadygrip, but those seem to be back in stock now).

Just wondering if lack of availability was the issue with the Tristar, which I'm unfortunately aware of.  I want a 20 gauge shotgun with a pistol grip for a turkey gun.  My problem is that most of them have little deal breakers for me.  I'm kinda picky like that.

Love both my M3020s...I started out with the 26" in bottomland camo and then won one on gunbroker for quite a bit south of $500. The one from gunbroker is the 24" turkey model with the awful lookin front post sight and the peep sight in the rear. But I've already got another 24" barrel in Obsession without that post on it, and it has a rib- I just like the look of a shotgun with a rib on it. Anyways, gonna get the steadygrip stock and have it fitted to it and that will be that!
In the way of patterns...336/10 with Indian Creek  .570 & 337/10 with Indian Creek  .562 using Apex 3" 1 5/8oz 9s @ 40 yds. I thought about the Affinity 3 but the only way to get it with a 24" bbl. with a rib is the compact version, then I'd have to have it dipped. So , I went with the Stoeger which was about $300 cheaper than the A3. Get the Stoeger and have the pistol grip put on it. PM me and I can help you out. Good luck!

I'm with you in the ventilated rib.  Ever since I was a kid I preferred them.  A gun without one is a deal breaker for me.

I have two m3020, the 24 inch turkey gun and a 26 barrel with mossy oak bottomland. I put a Nikon Spur on the turkey edition and just shoot the bead on the other. Both are great shooting guns ! I do not like the front sight at all on the turkey edition but with the Nikon Spur I do not use it anyway. Great guns!

If you can find a used CZ920 that's a hell of a rig. I love mine. They still make a 720 too, only difference being the recoil spring is in the foreend instead of in the stock so the foregrip is a bit heftier. Even make those 720s with shorter barrels. It's got a Holosun 507c-gr on it now. We fooled around with it some last summer once I did that and this was an Apex #9 pattern at 60yds. Probably need to come up and right a fuzz but that's about as good a 10" pattern as I'd ever hope to see from a 20ga at a distance like that. Surprisingly shot well at 20yds too with that load and choke, was still plenty open.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220109/9999245d1419ace85e4961e2b6f4f991.jpg)
