A friend and I caught 15 on Saturday. Yesterday eve I went to a local bayou to try out a new prop and caught these on the quick trip:

Sounds real good. I'm going to fry up some fish for the wife and I tonight.
Haven't been out catfishing yet. My buddy has been pulling some good blues and one nice 25lb OP out of a few holes. We'll probably go noodling next weekend if I get a chance. The big OPs should be in the holes pretty quick.
Forgive my ignorance, what is an OP?

Its one of the Louisiana names for a flat-head catfish. Opelousas cat. My favorite fish ! Im not crazy enough to go noodling though. LOL Congrats on the bass, those are perfect eating size !
Now I know that your freezer has to be full, between the turkey and fish, you had better get to eatting before deer season rolls around..... :z-guntootsmiley:
My buddies have been catching some Ops in nets and noodling up yall's way on one of our local waterways. I don't stick my hands in deep, dark holes but I do love to eat them.
ahh the famous green carp

No kiddin. It's just the wife and I, so between the elk, deer, turkeys, and fish we stay stocked at all times. I end up giving most of it away. Not to mention we get free beef every year(family farm).

I thought the same thing before we started doing it, always thought those guys were nuts. It is actually very safe and fun the way we do it and though it sounds more macho to say you got them with your hands, we catch a good many of them other ways. We have sticks with big hooks on the end wrapped in bright tape, you stick the stick in and they bite at the tape. We make our own structure holes for them in shallow water, so we don't have to dive down like some guys do. One guy slips out of the boat and eases up to the hole with a large dip net, which he places in front of the hole while the other guys anchor up the boat and jump in. Sometimes they bail before you get to the hole and sometimes they bail out into the net while we are getting ready. If they haven't come out by the time everyone is ready, we stick the stick in and wiggle it around waiting for the bite. Most of the holes are too deep to reach the fish with your hand, so the sticks are a must. We do get them with our hands as well when they come to the front of the hole, but we wear kevlar gloves. Most of the entrances are barely big enough for an OP to get in, so it's unlikely for anything but a catfish to be in them. No air for snakes or turtles and a turtle would have to be awful small to fit. Very productive way to fish, you can go out a fill an ice chest in a few hours if they are on the beds(in the holes). We take the blues to a local fish market and keep the OPs. Lots of fun.
