Title: One less co-predator
Post by: Loyalist84 on May 17, 2020, 10:12:54 PM
Heard him before we saw him - out hunting with my Dad and the 'yote ran within 5 yards of us once he winded us on the way to the decoys before he ran right into the bush where the birds were just coming off the roost. Pushed a pair of leisurely jakes out to us, circled around and tried to abscond with my Avian-X before I gave him a 1 7/8oz of #4 at 15 yards. Weighed an estimated 45 pounds, which is about as big as they get around here.

No more birds that day, but not because we didn't have chances!

Glad you took the critter. My biggest farm i hunt, almost 600 acres, had less birds this year than I have ever seen. In talking with the landowner he informed me that he had welcomed a trapper on the property this past winter. Proud to report the trapper had taken 14 coyotes and 4 bobcats off the farm! Now that's a lot of mouths to feed. Only hoping the remaining flock can rebound and the trapper keeps on laying the steel to their azz!

Got to be careful on predator control. Take too many coyotes and egg eaters boom.
I once read a biologist report that said a coyote has a very hard time killing an adult turkey.
Bobcats are superior hunters tho.

I hunt in southwest NY and have seen five Fishers this season. Saw three today and two of them were coming in to my calling. More and more of these critters out there and that can't be good for the turkey population.

I am pretty sure This moron state re introduced fisher int these areas. They are terrible for turkeys. They
get the turkeys right out of the tree at night. I believe this is a big part of the turkey demise in NY. Get your trapping license.

Good job!! As turkey hunters we all need to shoot every coyote we see!!

Sent from deep in the woods where the critters roam.

Helping the turkey population is a major reason I got my trapping license.
