I got back from Kansas this morning and thought I'd post some pics. Kansas was alot different than I expected. The birds were tough and seemed like there were few of them but we did scratch out three Rios. It was alot of fun and a good experience. The temperature was about 76 the first day and dropped to 36 the next morning and was WINDY!!!! The very first pic was my bird it had 15/16" spurs and the beard was 8 5/8 inches long. I didn't have any scales with me.

Yes they had been hunted, we encountered a couple birds that heard our calls(very soft calls) and literally ran the other way. These were the toughest birds I've hunted in my 15 years of hunting turkeys.
Brother and I returned from Kansas as well. Definitely harder to hunt than expected. We saw a ton of birds however, but they were still flocked up. Did come away with a single 2 yr old, but something is better than nothing :)
They were henned up bad in our area too, it was TOUGH!!! We really didn't see or hear that many birds so I think we done well.

Congrats on your birds. I was on private land in KS this past weekend. The birds wouldn't call in. While we did see lots in the distance, the closest we could get was around 150 yards. In fact we couldn't even get a gobble. We tried sitting in a blind where we had seen em a day earlier, walking and calling. Heck we even set up where my grandparents had fed cattle all winter.....corn still on the ground......nothing.
This year was the toughest I have seen in KS since 2004. Bird numbers definitely down in my area. I have seen fewer and fewer jakes each year which makes me wonder if they are in a decline or something. I still scratched out my two but it was tough. They wouldn't gobble after they hit the ground, or much on the roost.
