Title: Scott Witter’s box...
Post by: MikeStaten on May 03, 2020, 09:45:24 AM
Had a really tough hunt yesterday.   Woods were dead all morning and then after covering miles, I struck up a gobble with Witter's Ipe/Butternut short box.   This box has a great natural sounding pop to it.   The clucks are the most realistic I've heard out of any call.    Took 40 minutes to get this guy into range but he finally committed when I tried to imitate several hens together by using the box, Jimmy Schaffer Mad Hen 1 crystal pot and a Kerry Terrell mouth call.  2 minutes before legal shooting time my friend dropped the hammer on him.  Could not see him until he got into the shooting lane but then realized he had another longbeard with him and a hen which explains why it took so long for him to close that last 30-50 yds.  (https://www.njwoodsandwater.com/uploads/monthly_2020_05/tom7.jpg.2d5766f0ed6d40e16d30f0aa4bec1a15.jpg)

Congrats!

Did he seem to respond more to the yelps or the clucks?
