Back when I picked up one of these from Lonnie Mabry, I just experimented with numerous different strikers and picked the ones I thought sounded best.
Only thing is, I hadn't even tried playing a pot call of any kind until that day. So I don't have much confidence in my ability to evaluate the right kind of wood. Should have asked him for help, but I had somewhere to be and got in a hurry.
I picked out with a hickory and a cherry striker. The latter gives me great two-tone yelps (but I'm still inconsistent), and the hickory is higher-pitched and a bit more challenging, but I wanted something that would create sound that would carry.
What woods do you like to run on your anodized aluminum pot?
