Title: Any activity in Northern WI ?
Post by: Divenut2 on April 20, 2020, 05:27:28 PM
Hey folks,

I gotta wait until May 6th for my first hunt of the season in Door County WI. Got 2nd tag for the last week of the season as well. Anybody hunting the first season in WI seeing/hearing any birds?

Thanks much all. Stay safe and happy hunting!

I was supposed to be heading up there on Friday but the motels didn't want to let us stay there.

The birds were quite during the youth hunt but they came in.  Looking for to next week.  Still cold and not seeing Toms out strutting.

Sorry to hear that JWM.  That just bites.

Thanks for the info Divbum.  Guess that might not be a bad thing given the slots I got this year.  Either way, looking forward to social distancing in the woods.

Be well fellas

Yeah im going to stay down in southeast WI and try my luck at kettle morraine. Disappoint about Door county though. The land owner sent me a pretty promising video from the property.

More towards Eau Claire, but just as north. Was definitely pretty quiet the week before 'A' season. They were strutting though...quite a bit. I think all that mild weather (well...before the random snowstorm) broke up the winter flocks and the big boys were already trying to round up the ladies much earlier than usual. I didn't hear a ton of gobbling in 'A' season, but then again I think that was more reflective of them already well established with some hens. One of the rare times a bird sounded alone he trekked 1/4 mile to challenge another tom for his 4-5 hens WWE style.

Eventually got one, but I like when the entire forest is rumbling with gobbles in any given direction. Hopefully the excitement is just a bit delayed this year and the middle seasons will have some action when my next tags are.

Good luck to you all.

Thanks for the Intel Plush.  And congrats on bagging that bird.
