First season Iowa runs Monday thru Thursday. Monday and Tuesday had wind advisories. I never heard a bird. Wednesday woke up to an inch of snow and went back to bed thinking they would be wet and quiet. I went out mid morning for a few hours and they were talking. It's so exciting to hear a bird after being beat a few days. I got bird in twice on two different setups. However in each time while the birds were 25-30 away they seen me before I saw them. No shots. Went to work for a while and hit a spot on the way home. About an hour before fly up a hen starts yelping something fierce about 100 yards away in a field. She is coming my way and a strutting tom behind her. She kept running around and he kept chasing her. I thought I was in the deer stand watching a rutting buck. She kept yelping and I did my best to duplicate what she did. Both the tom and her would stop and look my way every now and then. Finally after about five minutes the tom came in to investigate. I shot him at 17 paces. I'm so grateful for this bird as I could not hunt today, the last day of season as I had to get back to work. Thank you Lord for a fun few days in your creation.

Our WI season started on Wed, had some luck but weren't talking much until around 10a-11a, then things livened up, sun was out, still cold but it worked.

Good job...nice story.
Congrats on your bird ..
Congrats
awesome bird, congrats
Nice bird, I've got 3rd & 4th season tags myself...getting itchy!
Thanks for all the compliments. One thing I've heard is the early season birds are bigger as they loose much weight in the breading season. This is the first time I've hunted the first season in over 15 years. I usually go the 3rd and 4th season as it gives more time. I've killed birds with bigger spurs and beards, but this is the is the biggest lbs bird I've killed at 25.4lbs. It's so funny how jacked up a person can get over a turkey. Every time I tossed or turned in my sleep last night rather I was awake or dreaming I was grinning and re-processing the hunt. Woke up with a smile on my face this morning. Life is good and God is great! Thanks again. Good luck you all. May the Lord's Blessing be on you.
Nice bird , congrats
I filled my first season tag about 1000 Monday morning. I've got a favorite spot out of that crazy wind and it was good to me again. I did hear two distance gobbles that morning, but it was quiet. My son lives in the country in NE Iowa and said the birds in his neighborhood were on fire Tuesday and Wednesday.
Congratulations.

Wish they were where we hunted in NE. Not much on the limb and very little on the ground all day. Hoping 4th season is better and definitely warmer..Know matter what though we'll be after em.
Congrats
so cool, sounds like a fun hunt!
congrats!!!
