Title: Ohio Limit
Post by: AndyH on May 12, 2011, 08:48:52 PM
These are my Ohio birds from this year. The first one I was invited to a co workers property for a hunt. Didn't take long to call this long beard in, Heard him gobbling on the roost on top of the ridge, there was a little clearing in the bottom. As I was walking down in the bottom I heard some hen's fire up so I busted them out of the tree and set up right there.  The gobbler flew down and strutted in the decoy's for about 10 mins before I pulled off the shot. 18lbs, 12'' beard and 1'' spurs.

My second bird I got off work early Last Monday afternoon and decided to hunt a property I hadn't hunted since the first week. Shortly before 7pm I had 3 long beards and a hen come into the field, two of them got to within 55yrds. but I just didn't feel comfortable taking the shot with two birds standing side by side so I let them walk off and watched them fly up to roost. Tuesday I was back in the same field, while they didn't come back in the field they were gobbling their heads off on the neighbors property. Wed. evening rolled around and I was back again. I pulled in to see the land owner's dog standing outside. I quickly grabbed my gear and walked past the barn and I could hear Turkey's clucking down in the bottom. I made it to the field and set my decoy out and sat down. I no sooner put my face mask on and I looked towards the bottom of the field to see 3 turkey's come running out of the woods and heading towards the neighbor's woods. I looked through my bino's and it was 2 long beards and a jake. I called to them and all three stopped and one went into strut, But they kept on going. I thought the dog must have run them out of the bottom so I wasn't expecting alot the rest of the evening. about 5 mins later I called again and the three came running out the the neighbor's woods and heading straight to my decoy. To make a long story short I let them get to about 35 yrds and picked out the strutter and brought this guy home. 23lbs. 9.5'' beard and 1 1/8 spurs. Great way to end my season. Still have two friends that need to fill tags and I've got two more long beards picked out for them for the last weekend.

Thanks for sharing your pics and stories. Man, I wish MI would go to a 2 bird limit! One positive is that it forces me to hunt out of state.
