Title: Virginia Turkey Season is up and Rolling
Post by: mtns2hunt on April 02, 2020, 07:56:50 PM
As I have stated here several times Virginia has a lot of Public land and and great oppertunity. Dept. of Game has just anounced that national Forest and WMA's are open to hunting. Just be sure to keep your distance. I have attached the link below. I really like the picture at the end of the artical.

I'm curious about what you guys think. Do you think the woods will be swamped with people this year or that people will keep cooped up inside?

Just my opinion but some will stay inside but more will hunt: at least the first week and then as it gets hotter many hunters will get discouraged and go home. Generally see this every year. But in Virginia there is so much land the imact of more hunters should not make a difference. First week or two I will hunt private land then switch to public as the numbers decline. Really do want to explore some new areas.

I'm confused now after reading this re: National Forests in VA. Says the same thing for every area and campground

I believe all camping facilities are closed but the NF is open for recreation assuming you comply with social distancing requirements.

I beleive that is correct. Most campgrounds are closed. Did not think to mention that as I never use them. Camping is allowed in many areas or the National Forst outside the camp grounds.

I have been cutting firewood all week in the NF with no issues except an old women that tryed to steal some LOL. It was funny because I was sitting 20 yards away taking a break and she was really startled when I asked if I could help her.

I observed 10 turkeys on national Forest land today. Three gobblers and 7 hens. Activity is definetly up.
