Title: My thoughts on patterning
Post by: strum on March 31, 2020, 06:21:33 PM
I know this has been gone over quiet a lot but If your patterning you gun . Especially if it a new gun ,load, or choke
"MAKE SURE" You are using big paper.
Twice now I have helped my friends .. and it happened to me.
We thought our patterns were not good  because we were not getting what we wanted in the 10"
In every case we stopped the testing and got some Christmas paper to cover the already shot up cardboard.
What did we find?
Every time  found we were not completely sighted in .
Smaller paper didnt show off much at 20 and 30  but moving out to 40 , a little off shows up big time.
Once you see where the shot is concentrating you can adjust as needed.
All of the sudden in, our cases, what we thought was not good turned out to be great.
So dont go buying chokes till your sure youre sighted in properly.

I use this same process and recommend that everyone do the same. It's amazing the folks that shoot at the notebook sized turkey head target ,come up with terrible results, and say "My gun, choke,or ammo ain't right".
