This guy started gobbling this AM @ 5:00 about 100 yds from me. I was able
to sneak within 60 yds of him on the roost and get set-up. He's been henned up
and pressured pretty good, so I waited until 5:25 and gave him a few soft clucks
on my crystal...he hammered back. Over the next five minutes I clucked several
more times and he answered back every time. At 5:30 he flew down going away from
me. I waited a minute or so and threw a few clucks his way...he gobbled. I gave
him a few more...he answered again and was definately on his way in!!! Quickly,
I set the call down, got the gun up...safety off. A few seconds later I could
hear him drumming and walking through the leaves. It was still kind of dark out
when that fat white snowball came into view at 30 yds. I wasted no time in
introducing his face to a load of Hevi-13 #7's...BBD baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Stats: 22lb., 10 1/2" paintbrush and 1 1/4" spurs.

Nice bird congrats!
:icon_thumright: Congrats! It's been tough over in zone 9, the birds aren't talking. I'm not sure if the last couple winters reduced the population or if there is too many hens. I've heard both stories. It's been the toughest spring in quite a few years for me. I've only actually worked one bird which was yesterday the 12th. A two hour ordeal with him coming to about 75 yards before walking way, back to hen(s) for the 4th or 5th time. I was with a buddy and I guess we got too close on the last move because he shutup. I struck another at 11am but he just hollered over his shoulder a couple times before shutting up. Doesn't look like I'm helping the team this year. I only have a couple more opportunities left.

It certainly has been a tough season so far. IMHO the winter wasn't that bad on the birds in this area...It's the friggen HENS!!! I really think that it's going to pick up over the next couple of weeks. Good luck!!!
