I was away in Hershey for work, Jr. called me last night to say he had roosted 3 gobblers while trout fishing. Said he was going to take a friend and hope to get him a longbeard.
Jr. told me they arrived in the woods at 0430 where the birds had been gobbling the night before. All set up and waiting, then at 0530 here comes a 4-wheeler and a guy walked into the decoys and started looking around. (This is public land) The other hunter walked off about 50 yds and sat dwn and started calling, at 0530????
Well Jr. and Co. got up and let the other hunter know they were leaving. On the way to the truck a bird gobbled across the lake. Jr. thought he kind of knew where the gobbling bird was, they regrouped and took off. Jr said they bumped a bird ( gobbler) on the way in and watched it fly across a field and land just inside the woods.
They went to where they thought the bird lit, sat down and waited 45 min. then started calling. Jr said about 15 min later he could hear faint drumming and told his partned to get his gun up and get ready. Jr said he saw the fullfan at 80yds, and never made another call. The bird closed to 25 yds. Jr wanted his bud to shoot. Jr. said he could have killed the bird 50 times. Conner did see the bird and Jr. told him to " kill em" which he did.
I could not be any prouder, I quess he has paid some attention to what the ol man says and does.
This bird hit the scales at 14.6 lbs.....
11" beard and 1 1/8 spurs.

Kinda scary though with the other hunter setting up and calling 50 yards from them. I believe I would have announced LOUDLY, I was leaving.
