I was blessed to be part of the Georgia youth weekend hunt with the Outdoor Dream Foundation. Believe me, I had a very small part in this. The guys that organized this event deserve all the kudos. We had 7 kids for the event and all 7 got a new 20ga TriStar with a Burris FF3 and a Sumtoy choke, a new vest, I made them each a slate call and a buddy made them each a glass call. They also got two new decoys and a decoy bag, plus they stayed at the property in two very nice cabins.
On to the hunt. I was paired up with a kid named JJ. JJ was born with cerebral palsy and at 4 years of age he was diagnosed with brain cancer. He is 14 now and they found some tumors on his spinal cord. With all the adversity this kid has been through, he did nothing but smile all day.
On to the hunt. The morning was rough, had a bird gobbling on the roost, but after fly down he went quiet. He did wind up gobbling on his own 70yds behind us, but wouldnt respond to a call. So we decided to go back to the cabin and regroup, but in the meantime we got the truck stuck, the mosquitoes were awful and the gnats even worse, still no complaining. Made a change for the afternoon and things got hot quick. Got a hen fired up and then game on. Two good birds came in and JJ laid the smack down on one of them. Bird didnt flop once!!! He probably could have killed the second bird, but I got so darned excited and yelled "atta boy" loud enough to send that bird three counties over :newmascot:
We got things settled down and a short time later my "allergies" kicked in and I had to walk away to give thanks to God for such a great day.

Thanks for sharing this awesome hunt and story , what a fine young man who has face so much in his life. The smiles on his face after killing the turkey were just priceless. I agree thank you guys who worked so hard to make these hunts happen for these young people .
Great stuff, Lee! Fantastic and honorable thing you are doing there.
Awesome stuff congrats!
Enjoyed that, thanks.
Congrats. That is wonderful of you guys and glad to see some smiles.
God bless you for that and congrats to you both. Some people will never realize the best times in the world are ones just like that. I can remember way more about mentored birds than ones I ever shoot myself.
Imagine if everyone just mentored a kid this year. Think of all the people we'd touch.
Don't forget the girls
