I've been hunting henned up birds for nearly 2 weeks in S. IN and N. MI. today I decided to sleep in and try to catch one alone after the hens went off to lay/sit. Well it worked pretty well! Shot a 23.25 lb. tom at 12:45. Came to my walnut/maple box after locating him near a green field strut zone. I did not arrive at the property until 10AM and worked another tom with 4 jakes and 2 hens around 11:30. Guess I'm back to IN as it's the only tag I have!

And some folks will try to tell you that you can't call them all the way in with a box call. Riiiight! Good bird! Looks like a Kicks choke in your gun. What ammo did you use?
congrats!

It is a Kick's Gobblin' Thunder .655. I have a lot of confidence in that choke tube. It certainly has performed over the years. I shoot Win Supreme 6's. I've been a fan of the white Hevi 13's, but the ones I have left have the shot loose and moving around inside the case.
On the box call thing, this bird would not gobble to anything but the box. I was actually looking for mushrooms and calling on occasion with a diaphram, I pulled out the box and hit it and he cut me off. Sat up and called with diaphram just because he was close and he wouldn't answer till I picked up the box and hit it again. Pretty special as I started making box calls last winter and this was the first bird I killed using my own box. I had a long box with me also that I was "field testing".
