What's a good one to get? I've never touched one before if that counts for anything. I've seen some on Hook's website along with Midwest Turkey Calls website but have no idea what I should be looking for.
I take it you're hunting them with straight air operated calls?

Sorry, probably should have specified. Wanting to use it to locate gobblers. Going to be out west for the first time this spring and it seems lots of guys use them to get them to shock gobble in the evenings.
If you use mouth calls-diaphragm calls you probably already have one you can howl on. Youtube coyote calling on a mouth call and just try all the one you got. If you don't already use a mouth call howling is probably not for the beginner with using mouth calls. My go to howler is a diaphragm call I didn't particularly like for turkey hunting or anything else until I tried howling with it. Good thing I did't throw it away. I've seen it get the turkeys to give away there location when nothing else would.
I have the hooks one, works great, get regular responses with it vs birds shutting up to a owl. Only thing I would change is I wish it had more volume
Scream Yip yip yipppeeee oooooohhhhh.

I bought a Primos hot dog years ago. It works on the midwest birds and is plenty loud. I assume they still make it.
I can get a half decent coyote out of my hooks owl hooter after a saw Shane Simpson do it on one of his videos. It's definitely not as shrill or loud as a stand alone coyote call but is one less thing to carry that would see limited use. In Nebraska I even had coyotes howl back to it and one even came in for a look so either it sounds real enough or so bad they think I'm dying.

I have this one, it takes a little while to figure it out before you start making some really nice coyote howls. But it's a no brainer, I have in fact used this to roost turkeys before, and it also got coyotes howling.
