Hey guys,
I am doing away with my list!! It was overwhelming! That list took away from my personal life. My wife likes to travel and I felt guilty every time I took off to be with her. I liked to turkey hunt all day. I felt guilty if I did that and wasn't in the shop building calls. I am continuing to build calls; but, from now on I will just be building them and putting them up for sale on here and FB! Keep a look out!!
That list can take all the fun out of call making.

I totally understand where you are coming from. I have neglected my family many nights over having to get calls boiled, put together, sanded, wrapped and finished. I need to do what you are doing. I feel bad going on a weekend trip because I am not messing with a wingbone or cane call. Overwhelmed with banquet calls and calls for people. Hard to tell people no but it is close
Man I understand also. Oh and the guilt, lol. Keep it fun Brother!!!
You guys are spot on. During the past few years I have restricted how many orders I will accept, but even so, it's still too many. This has always been about fun and passion and must remain so. For me, building them needs to be as exciting as the reaction I get from the customer when the call arrives and they play it for the first time.
I certainly understand. I am trying not to make the same mistake I made in a previous "adventure" where I had a list for building acoustic guitars, took the fun out of it(as well as working every free second I had) so I just stopped completely. Got to figure out a balance or burnout is inevitable. I like your idea about building on your own schedule, and selling what you make, that will probably help.
Greg
The turkeys will appreciate your decision. Now, maybe the turkey populations in the Southeast will start to rebound.
Smart move Mark, Once it becomes a job it's not fun any more, also you do enough for us with Unicoi,
I understand that I will be keeping an eye .
