Title: Public Hunting
Post by: ryanwatson0214 on February 20, 2020, 05:17:59 PM
Black Warrior WMA

I am planning to hunt Alabama public land this year. I know how it is to exchange information on public ground. I'm not asking for exact locations. Just curious as to if it would be worth my time to come from MS to hunt it. I would be willing to exchange information on MS for some AL info. Thanks

I don't know anything about Black Warrior WMA but your best bet is Skyline or Choccolocco WMA in N.Alabama. They both have alot of land but Choccolocco
will most likely be more crowded and they're both mountainous WMA's. I've also hunted Oakmulgee near Tuscaloosa and it was good but I've heard recently that
alot of it had been clear cut.

Thanks for the info. Figured Black Warrior wouldn't be bad due to the overall size of the WMA.

I would not drive from Mississippi to hunt black warrior for turkeys. I've hiked in the Sipsey wilderness a good bit and deer hunted on side A.  I've never seen a turkey down there. I know there are some but they seem to be concentrated and you have to deal with a lot of pressure in those areas from what I've heard. It's some really pretty land there though.
