Post by: skimerhorn on February 10, 2020, 06:29:10 PM
Thinking about getting to hunt with old school style. No red dot or pistol grip stock, or upgrade to the gun besides some tss probably. Any of you guys on here hunt with one? Would be awesome to find one with the corncob forend.

I killed a bird with an old single barrel 12, H&R, my grandfather left it too me.

Poi/poa was way off and it kicked harder than a pissed off mule!  Killed a nice bird with it and retired it.
Old school 2 3/4, 1 5/8 xx #5s mags stomped him at 30ish yards!

Was weird trying to kill something you were not actually aiming at!!!

I own a 1959 vintage Model 12 12 ga. I use old Winchester 2 3/4" 1 5/8 oz. #6 lead shot XX Magnum.  I shoot nothing but lead shot out of it.  IMO stay away from HTL shot.  The barrel steel is softer than what is manufactured today.  Others may use it in those old Model 12's but I do not. Besides if you are going to hunt "Old School" you might as well go all the way and shot lead shot too!
